Weekly Street & Farmer's Markets
Currently under development
In a recent Your Town Your Say survey, respondents said they would like to see markets in the town.
The Partnership carried out consultations in the community and with businesses, which established a strong level of support for a weekly street market and for occasional special interest markets.
Accordingly New Milton Town Council contracted a professional market operator to run all aspects of the weekly street market and a Wednesday market has operated ever since.
Subsequently the Town Council decided to institute a road closure in Station Road South to allow the expansion of the Wednesday market, but the market has not grown in either size of quality.
The road closure is generally disliked by local residents and businesses because of the disruption it causes to traffic flow and parking availability which has had the unfortunate knock on effect of adversely affecting businesses on Wednesdays as regular shoppers avoid coming into town.
The Partnership engages occasional special interest markets which take place on the pavements in Station Road. These have included French and Italian markets as well as Hampshire Farmers’ Markets and other monthly Farmers’ Markets in Mallard Court.
