Town Design Statement
New Milton Town Design Statement
As part of the formal Council planning process, the Town Design Statement (TDS) was started by the Town Council and the Town Partnership together in 2003, deriving input from both the then recent Council experience and the Government’s Market Towns initiative.
The outputs from this piece of work remain current as supplementary planning policy feeding into the neighbourhood plan.
Subsequently the Town Design Statement was completed by the Town Partnership after wide consultation with the residents, local developers and other councils.
It was reviewed and agreed by the planning authority, New Forest District Council, and was formally adopted by the Town Council. It now forms an annex to the planning authority’s local distinctiveness supplementary planning guidance produced in 2010 under the local core strategy plan.
The work done during this exercise is now proving useful in the current task of producing an acceptable Neighbourhood Plan for New Milton.
